What is honeycomb core material?

Honeycomb core is a kind of honeycomb material used as the inner core of honeycomb sandwich structure. There are many types of Honeycomb core material with many structural shapes, different materials and different combinations of honeycomb core structure have different properties. There are two types of metal and non-metallic honeycomb core materials. Among them, aluminum alloy honeycomb core material, aramid paper honeycomb core material, glass fiber honeycomb core material has a wider application and higher market demand. What is the difference between a foam core and a honeycomb core?

Foam core is used in residential construction and light aircraft to provide support and shape for wing tips, flight controls, fuselage sections, wings and wing ribs. Foam core is not commonly used in commercial aircraft, and foam is typically heavier and less robust than honeycomb core.

Honeycomb core materials have properties of lightweight, strong, wear-resistant and durable, and insulating and fire-resistant. Honeycombs with different cell sizes have different mechanical properties. High density Honeycombs are harder and stronger than low density ones.
